Project Overview
Helios Leuchten, a leading provider of electronic lighting solutions, faced a critical challenge in ensuring compliance with the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The company’s Magento 1.9.4.5 platform utilized Google Fonts, which transmitted user IP addresses to Google servers, potentially violating GDPR guidelines. As Helios Leuchten prepared to migrate to Magento 2.0, they needed a solution that allowed them to continue using their preferred fonts while ensuring compliance with GDPR.
The primary goal of this project was to locally host the required fonts (Inter for body text and Montserrat for headlines) while optimizing the mobile experience. This transition was essential not only for legal compliance but also for improving overall website performance and user experience.
Key Challenges
GDPR Compliance: Helios Leuchten’s use of Google Fonts violated GDPR guidelines, transmitting user IP addresses to external servers without consent. The challenge was to maintain custom fonts while ensuring no user data was transmitted, avoiding legal penalties.
Design Consistency: Helios Leuchten needed to maintain brand identity during optimization. Consistent typography and visual elements were crucial to delivering a cohesive user experience that aligned with their brand’s guidelines and strengthened customer recognition throughout the platform.
